Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications (Radio):
Become skilled in radio and related fields with our highly regarded radio specialisation.
This highly practical programme will equip you with the skills and theory necessary to become a radio professional.
We develop your understanding of the changing media environment, your practical research skills and prepare you for a first-time position in radio or online.
You’ll study production and performance while operating a commercial radio station, broadcasting throughout the Canterbury region.
Our programme has been strongly influenced by industry groups such as NZME, Mediaworks and The Radio Broadcasters Association.
Our 24-week industry internship provides you with a highly effective link between the theoretical and practical aspects of broadcasting, and gives you a working understanding of the industry demands of working in a deadline driven environment.
Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications (Screen and Television Production):
Our degree develops your ability to respond to the dynamic changes taking place in the screen media and entertainment industries.
This practical degree programme covers a broad range of in-depth production skills for the creation of screen-based productions.
You will learn to create a full range of screen genres, including drama, light entertainment, music videos, commercials, documentary and news, from conception to publication.
We prepare you for entry into the screen industry with professional competencies matched to industry standards. This programme is kept relevant and cutting edge through continuous feedback from the industry.
Your career connections will be advanced with a 24 week industry internship in a broadcast media or production company. When you graduate from the New Zealand Broadcasting School you will be able to meet the needs of the industry from your very first day on the job.
This programme is a full time 3-year degree that is delivered in 2 ½ years (including a 6-month internship).
In our most recent graduate survey, 93.1% of 2016 Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications graduates were in employment (Ara Graduate Outcome Survey, 2016).
Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications (Journalism):
Prepare to face the world of broadcast and online news and current affairs head-on with our internationally renowned journalism degree.
Our Bachelor of Broadcasting Communications degree specialising in journalism is a highly practical programme providing you with the skills and theory to break news stories and be actively involved with the production of news for radio, television or online media.
Early in your studies you’ll gain a strong grounding in broadcasting and communications theory, writing and researching news bulletins for our radio station. You’ll also report TV news stories for broadcast and online.
In close collaboration with our media partners, our programme has been designed to produce graduates who will meet the needs of the industry. Our 24-week industry internship gives you more real-world experience, builds your industry contacts and gives you a real edge when it comes to securing your first job.
English requirements:
